Federal Agents to Conduct Immigration Enforcement Operation in Louisiana and Mississippi
NEW ORLEANS — Approximately 250 federal border agents are set to begin an operation focused on immigration enforcement in southeastern Louisiana and parts of Mississippi. The operation, known as “Swamp Sweep,” is expected to last for several weeks.
The initiative aims to uphold our nation’s immigration laws and ensure public safety. It will focus on identifying and apprehending individuals who are in the country illegally.
Gregory Bovino, a Border Patrol commander with experience in similar operations, will lead the effort.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has voiced his support for the operation, emphasizing the importance of enforcing immigration laws within the state.
The operation comes as Louisiana has enacted stricter laws regarding immigration enforcement, reflecting the will of the people in ensuring a secure border. These laws aim to prevent obstruction of federal immigration efforts and hold accountable officials who fail to cooperate with agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Some groups have voiced concerns about the operation, but law enforcement officials have stressed their commitment to conducting operations professionally and with respect for the law.
Immigration lawyers in the New Orleans area report an increase in inquiries from individuals seeking information.
The enforcement operation highlights the ongoing national debate surrounding immigration policy and border security. Supporters say such actions are necessary to maintain the rule of law and protect American communities.
