Two helicopters collided in the air over Hammonton, New Jersey, on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and one critical injury.
Local police chief Kevin Friel stated that emergency services responded to reports of a crash around 11:25 a.m. Police and fire teams put out fires that had broken out in one of the helicopters.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports that the crash involved two Enstrom helicopters, models F-28A and 280C. Each helicopter had only the pilot on board. One pilot died, and the other was rushed to a nearby hospital with very serious injuries.
Hammonton is a small town in southern New Jersey, not far from Philadelphia.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are looking into the cause of the accident.
