Nicole Kidman is excited about her latest project, an erotic thriller that challenges views on older women’s sexuality. At 57, Kidman is proud to portray a character who confronts complex desires and identity.
In the upcoming film, “Babygirl,” she plays Romy, a powerful CEO who risks everything when she engages in a risky affair with a much younger intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson. Kidman shared her thoughts with a media outlet, emphasizing that women often feel overlooked in society as they age, especially regarding sexuality.
She expressed that this film represents a voice that isn’t commonly heard, highlighting how her character’s journey reflects the reality faced by many women. Romy grapples with her identity and desires even after achieving a seemingly perfect life, a situation that many can relate to.
Kidman pointed out that many women question their choices and identities after significant life events, such as raising children or maintaining a marriage. She hopes the film resonates with audiences and encourages reflection, even if some viewers find it unsettling.
The movie, directed by Halina Reijn, also features Antonio Banderas as Romy’s husband and Sophie Wilde as her ambitious assistant. Kidman acknowledged the daring aspects of the film, particularly its portrayal of sexuality written for older characters, rather than younger ones.
“Babygirl” is set to hit theaters on December 25. When asked about who should accompany viewers to the movie, Kidman playfully suggested that anyone could join, but watching alone is also a valid choice.
