An Uber Eats driver in New Jersey recently discovered that a burrito he was delivering was not what it appeared to be.
The delivery driver picked up a burrito order from a restaurant in Lindenwold, intending to take it to Glassboro. However, he stopped in Washington Township when he noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the order, according to local police.
Upon calling the authorities, Officer Lou DeStefano arrived to examine the mysterious “burrito,” which turned out to be a foil-wrapped bag filled with over an ounce of marijuana instead of the expected food. Washington Township police humorously noted on social media, “This wasn’t the kind of wrap anyone ordered. The ‘burrito’ is now in evidence, and we’re cooking up an investigation.”
Along with the bag of marijuana, police also found a bottle of water and a box of soup in the delivery.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about this unusual delivery to reach out to their tip line at 856-589-0330.
In New Jersey, cannabis was legalized in 2021, allowing people to possess up to six ounces at a time. However, sales are only legal at state-licensed dispensaries and limited to just one ounce per transaction. It’s still unclear whether the marijuana found was being delivered as part of a sale.
