In Southport, North Carolina, a shooting at a waterfront bar called the American Fish Company has left three people dead and several others hurt.
The police say that on a Saturday night, they got calls about shots being fired and people injured. They believe the shooter was on a boat in the water. The boat stopped briefly near the bar, and someone started shooting. After the shooting, the boat sped away toward Oak Island.
After about half an hour, the Coast Guard found someone matching the shooter’s description at a boat ramp in Oak Island. The police there are talking to that person. Officials think this was an isolated incident and that there’s no further danger to the public.
The Southport Yacht Basin, where the bar is located, is where a few different bodies of water meet. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement groups are helping Southport police with the investigation.
Police Chief Todd Coring mentioned that six people are in the hospital because of the shooting. The names of the people who died or were hurt haven’t been released yet. The Sheriff’s Office is asking everyone to keep those affected and the first responders in their thoughts. The reason for the shooting is still unknown.
