Mysterious Disappearance of Airline Employee Leads to Arrests
A second person has been arrested in connection with the strange case of Rana Nofal Soluri, a 47-year-old American Airlines flight attendant from Fort Worth, Texas, who has been missing since March. This case has taken a turn due to an unexpected butt dial.
Soluri was reported missing in June by a coworker, who hadn’t heard from her since March 19, when their text exchanges abruptly stopped. Her roommate, 66-year-old Dennis William Day, was arrested in June and charged with murder after he reportedly admitted to strangling Soluri during an argument and disposing of her body off a bridge.
On August 26, another suspect, 62-year-old Joni Thomas, was arrested for tampering with evidence. Thomas is alleged to have helped Day dispose of Soluri’s body. Unfortunately, her body has not yet been found.
The investigation began to unfold in May when police were called to Day’s home to tow a Mazda that Soluri purchased just before she disappeared. At first, Day claimed he didn’t know where Soluri was, and both he and another resident said they hadn’t seen her for months.
As police continued their search for Soluri, they obtained records showing her last phone call was made on March 21. When detectives later searched Day’s home, they discovered surveillance footage showing Day dragging what appeared to be a lifeless body from the home.
Day allegedly told investigators that he placed Soluri’s body in a trash bin and drove 65 miles away to dispose of it. The criminal complaint indicates that Day also contacted Thomas, who allegedly drove her truck to help him with this.
Initially, Thomas said Day did not drive her truck, but later claimed he did while she was asleep and unaware of what was happening. The truth emerged when a butt dial revealed a voicemail in which a man and woman can be heard discussing moving something heavy, with a male voice saying, “Hey … help me,” and “I’m sorry I got you messed up in this.”
Day remains in Tarrant County Jail with a bond set at $200,000, while Thomas was released on bond. As of now, both have not publicly commented on the situation.
