The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are changing things up this year by moving to a new network. For the first time, CBS will broadcast the VMAs, a significant shift announced by the show’s organizers.
The award show will air live on Sunday, September 7, from the UBS Arena located just outside New York City. Fans can catch the three-hour event on CBS, and it will also be available on MTV and streaming on Paramount+. Additionally, a one-hour pre-show will be available across various Paramount Media Networks.
CBS is known for hosting several award shows, including the prestigious Tony Awards and the American Music Awards. They have been the home of the Grammys since 1973, although that show is set to switch to ABC in 2027.
In last year’s VMAs, Taylor Swift was the standout star, winning a total of seven awards, including the coveted video of the year for her song “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone. This impressive win brought her total VMAs to 30, tying her with Beyoncé for the most awards in the history of the VMAs. Eminem holds the title for the most male awards, with 15.
Since its inception in 1984, the VMAs have been a staple in the music industry. As the date approaches, organizers will reveal the nominees and performers for this year’s event.
