A woman in McDowell County, North Carolina, has been charged following the tragic death of a child earlier this year. The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies received a call on January 13 about a child experiencing cardiac arrest on Resistoflex Road. When emergency medical services arrived, they found that the child had already passed away.
An autopsy later determined that the cause of death was asphyxiation. Investigators found that unsafe sleeping conditions contributed to the child’s death, indicating severe negligence. As a result, 23-year-old Katherine Grace Purdom has been arrested and charged with felony involuntary manslaughter.
Purdom is currently being held on a secured bond of $50,000.
