A mother from Washington has been charged with attempted murder following allegations that she tried to harm her 8-week-old daughter, who suffered severe injuries, including 20 rib fractures.
Shannon McNease is facing charges of attempted murder and child assault, according to local jail records in Kitsap County. The Bremerton Police reported that the infant was taken to the hospital by her father on August 7, where she was treated for a brain bleed and multiple fractures that appeared to be from non-accidental trauma.
In addition to the rib fractures, the baby also had six other fractures. Authorities believe that the brain injury indicates the child may have been shaken. They stated that these serious injuries likely occurred while the infant was in McNease’s care. Furthermore, it was discovered that McNease had engaged in a conversation online that suggested she had harmful intentions toward her child.
Fortunately, the infant survived and is now safe with other family members. McNease was arrested on September 4, but it remains unclear if she has entered a plea or hired a lawyer.
