Miracle Baby Born Outside the Womb, Parents Credit Faith
Bakersfield, CA – Suze Lopez and her husband, Andrew, are celebrating the arrival of their son, Ryu, a baby whose very existence defies medical odds. Ryu developed outside of his mother’s womb, a situation so rare that doctors are planning to document the case in a medical journal.
Abdominal pregnancies, where the baby develops outside the uterus, occur in only 1 in 30,000 pregnancies. Full-term abdominal pregnancies are even rarer, with some doctors estimating they occur far less than 1 in a million births.
Lopez, a 41-year-old nurse, was unaware she was pregnant until just days before Ryu’s birth. She had been monitoring an ovarian cyst for years and initially believed her growing abdomen was due to its enlargement. She experienced no typical pregnancy symptoms and her irregular cycle masked the absence of menstruation.
After months of worsening abdominal pain, Lopez sought to have the cyst removed. A routine pregnancy test, required before a CT scan, revealed the unexpected news.
Following the positive pregnancy test, further examination revealed that Lopez’s uterus was empty. However, a healthy fetus was developing in her abdomen.
On August 18th, doctors delivered Ryu, weighing 8 pounds, via surgery. Doctors also removed the large cyst, during the procedure Lopez lost almost all of her blood, but the medical team was able to provide her with blood transfusions.
Both mother and child recovered remarkably well. Doctors say that Ryu is healthy and thriving, bringing immense joy to his parents and older sister. As they approach Ryu’s first Christmas, the Lopezes express deep gratitude for the gift of their son.
“I do believe in miracles,” Lopez shared. “God gave us this gift—the best gift ever.” The family’s experience underscores the sanctity of life and the unwavering belief in the power of faith and prayer, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.
