Minnesota Senator and Wife Suffer Gunshot Wounds in Disturbing Incident
On June 14, Minnesota Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were attacked outside their home in what they described as a terrifying situation. The couple revealed they were shot multiple times—John nine times and Yvette eight—by a gunman, identified as Vance Boelter, 57. Tragically, this incident coincided with the murder of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, who were also victims of gun violence that night.
In a statement shared with the media, the Hoffmans recounted the harrowing events of that evening, which began after a dinner attended by the Hortmans. The couple had returned home with their adult daughter, Hope, when they were startled awake around 2 a.m. by loud banging and shouting at their front door.
Upon opening the door, they were confronted by the gunman. John courageously lunged at the assailant but was struck several times. Yvette, in an attempt to protect her family, pushed the attacker and managed to slam the door shut, but she too was shot.
Hope, quick-thinking and brave, locked the door and called 911. Her actions proved crucial, alerting authorities to the unfolding crisis and highlighting the severe danger present.
The Hoffmans expressed their gratitude to first responders and police for their swift actions, which helped ensure the safety of others and led to the suspect’s eventual capture. They also took a moment to express their deep sorrow for the loss of Rep. Hortman and her husband, vowing to support their children in this tragic time.
In their statement, the couple reflected on the risks that come with public service, stressing the need for a more civil society. They called for collective efforts to restore peaceful living, emphasizing the importance of safety for future generations.
Authorities had been alerted to the Hoffmans’ situation shortly after the attack, and police later discovered the suspect, Boelter, during a confrontation at the Hortman residence. He was armed and attempted to flee but was apprehended the following day after a manhunt.
Boelter has since been federally charged in connection with the shooting and is facing serious legal consequences. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 27, as this distressing case continues to develop.
