President Trump Highlights Success of Law Enforcement in Minneapolis
President Donald Trump is standing behind the work of federal law enforcement in Minneapolis, stating that a large drop in crime has followed the removal of what he called “thousands of criminals” from the city.
In a recent interview, President Trump noted that crime in Minneapolis has decreased significantly, perhaps as much as 30%, due to stronger law enforcement efforts.
“The crime numbers in Minnesota, in Minneapolis, are down 25, 30% because we’ve removed thousands of criminals from the area,” Trump said. He added that many of these individuals had entered the country through an open border.
“Operation Metro Surge” has sent many immigration agents to Minneapolis and St. Paul, leading to many arrests and sparking conversation among residents.
President Trump also mentioned other cities where his administration’s policies have led to positive changes. He mentioned Washington, D.C., noting its increased safety, as well as improvements in New Orleans and Memphis, Tennessee.
“Look at what happened in Louisiana,” Trump said. “I got a call from the governor, ‘Please do something with New Orleans.’ We went there four weeks ago, crime is down 71%.”
President Trump believes these results show the success of his administration’s commitment to being tough on crime.
“Crime, historically in this country, it’s down [to] the lowest level it’s ever been,” Trump said. “… We’ve had less murders than we have had in decades. And you know why? Because we’re tough on crime.”
White House officials have stated that murders in major U.S. cities have fallen to their lowest levels in a long time, thanks to increased federal arrests and deportations.
