Residents of Orangeburg County Begin Recovery as Many Roads Remain Closed
ORANGEBURG, SC — Last week, heavy rains combined with the rising Edisto River led to significant flooding across Orangeburg County.
As the floodwaters recede, recovery efforts are underway, but many roads are still impassable.
Communities affected by the flooding include Norway, Cordova, and Bowman. According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), as of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 47 roads are still closed.
In Bolen Town, resident John Hickson faces challenges in his muddy yard and ongoing power outages as he works to restore normalcy in his home. His neighbor is also grappling with the aftermath of the severe weather.
SCDOT asks for community patience and encourages everyone to exercise caution as cleanup efforts continue.
