The Miami Dolphins have parted ways with wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., marking the end of his brief time with the team. Beckham’s release on Friday came after he missed two practice sessions due to personal reasons.
Beckham joined the Dolphins on a one-year deal back in May but began the season on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing knee surgery in the offseason. He made his debut for Miami in Week 5 against the New England Patriots, but his performance was below expectations, with just nine receptions for 55 yards across nine games.
Originally signed to provide depth behind star receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Beckham struggled to find a role in the Dolphins’ offense. The rise of rookie receiver Malik Washington and increased involvement of tight end Jonnu Smith further diminished his opportunities.
Historically, Beckham enjoyed great success with the New York Giants in his first five NFL seasons but has since bounced around to several teams, including the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Rams, where he won a Super Bowl during the 2021-22 season. Last season, he had 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns with the Ravens before being released in March.
In light of these developments, the Dolphins will now look to reshape their receiving corps as the season progresses.
