A new search has begun in the Indian Ocean for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which disappeared over ten years ago. The plane vanished with 239 people on board, becoming one of aviation’s biggest unsolved mysteries.
The Malaysian Transport Ministry announced that a search ship arrived in the designated area on Wednesday. The ship has special underwater vehicles to help look for the plane.
Ocean Infinity, a company specializing in marine robotics, is leading the search. They will only be paid if they find the plane. The company previously searched the area in 2018 without success, but they say they have improved their technology since then.
The Malaysia Airlines plane disappeared shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur on March 8, 2014. It was headed to Beijing. Satellite data showed the plane changed course and flew south toward the Indian Ocean. Experts believe it crashed there.
Despite a large search effort, the main part of the plane has never been found. Some pieces of debris, thought to be from the plane, have washed up on coasts and islands. The reason for the plane’s change of course remains unknown. The families of those on board deserve answers, and this new search offers a renewed hope for closure. It highlights the importance of continued investment in advanced technology to help solve these kinds of mysteries and ensure air travel safety.
