Tragedy Strikes Soccer Field in Mexico
Salamanca, Mexico – A brutal attack at a soccer field in central Mexico has left 11 dead and 12 wounded. Gunmen opened fire on the crowd as a match concluded, according to Salamanca Mayor Cesar Prieto.
The mayor stated that the attack is part of a larger “crime wave” affecting the city. He has requested assistance from President Claudia Sheinbaum to restore law and order. Among the wounded are a woman and a minor, adding to the tragedy.
Guanajuato, the state where Salamanca is located, has struggled with high levels of violence. The Guanajuato state prosecutor’s office is investigating.
Mayor Prieto stated, “Unfortunately, there are criminal groups trying to subjugate authorities, something they are not going to achieve.”
Mexican government data indicates a decrease in the national murder rate, but concerns remain that the statistics may not fully capture the extent of the violence across the country.
