Meri Brown has opened up about her choice to end her marriage to Kody Brown after nearly 30 years. In a recent episode of Sister Wives, the 53-year-old businesswoman shared insights on their spiritual separation while chatting with friends.
Meri, who legally divorced Kody in 2014, recounted a conversation they had after the divorce was finalized. Kody expressed confusion about why she decided to end things so quickly, questioning if she had someone else waiting in the wings. Meri found his remarks offensive, pointing out that he showed no desire to repair their marriage, making her decision the only viable option.
After receiving official notice of the divorce from their church, Meri texted Kody, who called her shortly after. She shared the message she sent, expressing her heartbreak over their separation and affirming her continued love and respect for him. She reassured Kody that she could manage on her own, emphasizing her desire for both of them to find peace.
In previous seasons, Meri explained that the divorce was necessary for Kody to marry Robyn Brown legally and adopt her children while their spiritual marriage remained. In a conversation early this year, after announcing their split, she noted that they maintain a cordial relationship, though they aren’t close friends.
Meri described their relationship as comfortable during shared spaces but admitted they don’t regularly communicate. Despite their past, she seems satisfied with the boundaries they have now established.
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
