Speculation Swirls: Will Meghan Markle Return to the UK?
Royal watchers are wondering if Meghan Markle will join Prince Harry in England this summer for events tied to the Invictus Games. While Prince Harry is expected to attend the one-year countdown celebration in Birmingham, it’s unclear if the Duchess of Sussex will be by his side.
A spokesperson for the couple’s organization, Archewell, has dismissed these reports as “entirely speculative.” However, royal experts suggest that Meghan’s return hinges on one key factor: guaranteed armed security.
Kinsey Schofield, a royal commentator, believes Meghan will only travel to the UK if she receives automatic armed security, addressing Prince Harry’s previous concerns about the safety of his family in the UK without sufficient protection.
The issue of security has been a sticking point for the couple since they stepped down as senior royals. While Prince Harry often receives armed protection during his visits, they object to having to request it on a case-by-case basis.
Some reports suggest that the decision to deny Harry full-time armed protection might be reconsidered. Sources indicate that the Home Office is considering providing security for Harry, and there have been “positive” considerations regarding a possible reversal of the security arrangements.
Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner believes King Charles wants to use his reign to reunite the family and that Meghan’s return is part of that legacy. However, he noted that Meghan would want assurances, particularly regarding her treatment and ability to express her individuality.
Others are less optimistic. Hilary Fordwich, another royal expert, suggests Meghan might face a frosty reception from the British public. She argues that Meghan is aware of her unpopularity in the UK and that another negative experience could damage her image.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, citing media intrusion and a lack of support. Since then, they have been vocal about their experiences, straining relationships with the royal family.
The question remains: Will Meghan Markle return to the UK, or will the security concerns and potential public backlash keep her away? Only time will tell.
