A new addition to the Bronx Zoo is delighting visitors, as a baby silvered langur has officially joined the exhibit. The zoo made the announcement on Thursday, revealing that this male infant, born in November, is now part of a group of adult langurs. His bright orange coat is a lively contrast against the gray fur of the older monkeys, adding a vibrant touch to the winter landscape.
Silvered langurs, scientifically known as Trachypithecus cristatus, are originally from forests in Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Unfortunately, this species is considered “vulnerable” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, a classification that signals they are at risk of becoming endangered.
The new baby has already been spotted interacting playfully with the adult monkeys, climbing over them and navigating branches in their habitat. Despite his cute antics, the little one has yet to receive a name.
Visitors can see this charming young langur at the zoo’s JungleWorld exhibit, where he is sure to bring joy and a sense of wonder to all who come to admire him.
