A young McDonald’s worker in Texas is in trouble with the law after being accused of tricking customers.
Giovanni Primo Blount, who is 19 years old, was arrested on Sunday. Police say that when customers paid with their cards at the McDonald’s in Springtown, he would charge them twice.
Here’s how it worked, according to police: Blount would swipe the customer’s card for the correct amount. Then, he would quickly tap their card on another device he had with him, adding an extra $10 to $20 to the bill. Police say this extra money went into an account that Blount controlled.
Police believe Blount managed to get about $680 before he was caught.
If you’ve used a card at that McDonald’s recently, police suggest checking your bank statements for any charges you don’t recognize. Some customers have already gotten their money back.
Blount was first charged with stealing property, and he was held in jail. But after police found out he had used his device for over 50 transactions, the charges were made more serious. Now, he’s accused of using someone else’s information illegally more than 50 times, which is a serious crime.
Blount has been released from jail after paying bail and will have to go to court.
To protect yourself from this kind of fraud, police recommend checking your bank statements often and setting up alerts on your phone to notify you of any transactions.
They also suggest keeping your card hidden when you’re paying and using mobile wallets or contactless payments when you can. These methods help keep your card information safe. Finally, remember to change your PIN numbers and banking passwords regularly.
Police say that if you see something suspicious or think your financial information has been stolen, you should report it right away.
