Kylian Mbappé Released from Hospital Following Illness
MIAMI – Kylian Mbappé has been released from the hospital after battling a severe case of gastroenteritis. As of now, it remains uncertain when he will be able to return to the field to play for Real Madrid in the Club World Cup.
Mbappé missed Madrid’s first game in the tournament, which ended in an unexpected 1-1 draw against Al Hilal, a team from Saudi Arabia. His absence was due to a fever that left him in “rough shape,” preventing him from training for several days, according to coach Xabi Alonso. This raises questions about his participation in the upcoming matches, including one against Pachuca on Sunday in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Real Madrid announced that the forward will continue specific medical treatment and gradually rejoin the team’s activities. Gastroenteritis, commonly referred to as stomach flu, can cause symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea, contributing to his sudden health issue.
This setback is unfortunate for the Club World Cup, which FIFA President Gianni Infantino hopes will become one of the premier events in soccer, rivaling popular competitions like the Champions League. After Lionel Messi, Mbappé stands out as one of the biggest stars in football, and Madrid is considered a strong contender for the title in this inaugural tournament.
For over 62,000 fans at Hard Rock Stadium, the absence of Mbappé was a letdown, especially since his first game was held at the home stadium of the Miami Dolphins. Coach Alonso expressed that he felt Mbappé’s absence keenly during a challenging start to the tournament.
Despite being seen as clear favorites against Al Hilal, Madrid struggled to secure a win, needing a last-minute penalty to seal the deal but ultimately falling short. Alonso acknowledged that this process will require patience as the team adjusts under his new leadership, after taking over from Carlo Ancelotti, who recently joined the Brazil national team after a successful run with Madrid.
In the previous season, the 26-year-old Mbappé was the team’s top scorer, netting 43 goals in 56 appearances since his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
This recent hospitalization closely follows an incident from last year when he suffered a broken nose during the European Championship, forcing him to wear a protective face mask to continue competing.
As the tournament progresses, fans and the team alike are hopeful for Mbappé’s swift recovery and return to action.
