Basketball Games Postponed Due to Winter Storm
Across the nation, a severe winter storm has forced the National Basketball Association (NBA) to postpone several games. Travel has become hazardous, leading to the cancellations of games in Memphis and Milwaukee that were scheduled for Sunday.
The Dallas Mavericks faced difficulties when attempting to fly to Milwaukee for their game against the Bucks. Due to the unsafe conditions, the game was postponed. Demonstrating community spirit, food prepared for the game was instead donated to local shelters.
Earlier on Sunday, the game between the Denver Nuggets and the Memphis Grizzlies was also called off. The league has not yet announced when these games will be rescheduled.
Looking ahead to Monday, the NBA has adjusted the start times for two games: the Philadelphia 76ers at Charlotte Hornets will now begin earlier in the afternoon, as will the Indiana Pacers at Atlanta Hawks game.
The Memphis area has been hit hard by a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain since Saturday. The icy conditions have created widespread power outages and blocked roadways. Authorities have advised residents to stay off the roads due to the dangerous conditions.
Despite the weather, the Nuggets plan to travel as soon as conditions at Memphis International Airport allow.
Beyond the NBA, other sporting events have also been affected. At least two college women’s basketball games have been postponed, along with a men’s basketball game between Tennessee and Georgia. Other college games have also been postponed with no make-up dates announced.
