Danny Masterson, the actor known from “That 70s Show,” is fighting back against his rape convictions. His legal team has recently filed paperwork asking the court to throw out his conviction and 30-years-to-life prison sentence.
Masterson’s lawyers claim he didn’t get a fair trial. They point to issues like his previous lawyer not doing a good job, unfair actions by the prosecutors, and bias from the judge.
They also say that the Los Angeles Police Department’s investigation was flawed. Masterson’s team suggests that Leah Remini, a former member of the Church of Scientology, influenced the investigation because she was making a TV show critical of the church at the time.
Masterson’s lawyer, Eric Multhaup, stated that the first trial was unfair because of prosecutorial misconduct and judicial bias and his defense team’s failure to present important evidence. He believes Masterson deserves a new trial where all the facts can be heard.
Masterson’s legal team is also claiming that the police investigation was not fair from the start because of Leah Remini involvement. They say she had a vendetta against Masterson and that police welcomed her input even knowing about her bias.
Currently, Masterson is serving his sentence in a medium-security prison in California.
