A recent attack on a synagogue in England, which resulted in the tragic deaths of two members of the congregation, has been linked to the Islamic State terror group.
Authorities have revealed that the attacker, Jihad Al-Shamie, pledged allegiance to the group during the deadly incident on October 2nd. He called emergency services to claim responsibility as he attacked the Heaton Park Congregation Synagogue in Manchester. Al-Shamie rammed a car into pedestrians, used a knife against them, and attempted to enter the synagogue. Police shot and killed him outside the building.
During the attack, congregation members Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, lost their lives. The incident occurred on Yom Kippur, a day of high importance in the Jewish faith. Reports indicate that Daulby was accidentally shot by police as he and others barricaded the building to prevent Al-Shamie from entering.
Police have arrested multiple individuals in connection with the attack, searching for any accomplices.
This attack has caused fear within Britain’s Jewish community. Concerns have grown regarding the rise of antisemitism, particularly since the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas.
