A man named Daniel Krug has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, stalking, and criminal impersonation in relation to the death of his wife, Kristil Krug. Information from court documents reveals that disturbing messages sent to Kristil in the months before her death were traced back to Daniel’s workplace.
The trial for Daniel is set to begin soon, with opening statements expected as early as Friday, according to reports.
In October 2023, Kristil reported to the Broomfield Police that she was being harassed by an ex-boyfriend from nearly two decades ago. The messages she received, which were allegedly sent by Daniel while pretending to be her ex, included negative remarks about him, such as calling him her “loser husband.” Some messages expressed a desire to be with her and even included images indicating that someone was stalking her.
Tragically, a few weeks after the harassment began, Kristil was found dead in her Denver home, with signs of blunt-force trauma and a stab wound. Detectives soon discovered that Daniel was likely behind the harassing messages; they traced the messages back to his workplace.
On the day of Kristil’s death, her home security cameras, which she had installed for safety after receiving the messages, were turned off. Daniel was the only one with access to these cameras, and they showed no signs of anyone entering the home before the incident.
Further investigation revealed that Kristil’s ex-boyfriend, who had briefly contacted her in previous years, had an alibi that proved he was not in Colorado at the time. He had not sent her any messages prior to her death, and there was no evidence to suggest his involvement.
Friends and family members previously indicated that Kristil and Daniel were considering a divorce. In her obituary, Kristil was remembered as an extraordinary person who made a positive impact on the lives around her and whose potential was tragically cut short.
