A man from Manassas Park, Virginia has been charged with the murder of his wife, based on troubling online searches he allegedly made. Naresh Bhatt, who is facing serious charges including first-degree murder and tampering with a dead body, was taken into custody after his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt, went missing in early August.
Mamta, a 28-year-old mother from Nepal, was reported missing on August 5 after failing to show up for work, which prompted local police to check on her. There had been no contact with her since July 29. Following an investigation, authorities uncovered evidence suggesting that a body may have been removed from their home.
On August 22, Naresh was charged with concealing a dead body. Evidence pointed to suspicious activities, including his search history. Prosecutors revealed that he had looked up information like “How long does it take to get married after spouse dies” and “What happens to debt of a deceased spouse.”
In the days surrounding Mamta’s disappearance, Naresh allegedly purchased knives and cleaning supplies, some of which are still missing. Furthermore, investigators believe he discarded a bloodstained bath mat and was seen wearing gloves while throwing away other items on the morning after Mamta went missing.
Naresh’s legal team argues that Mamta is still alive, although she has not been seen for several months. Authorities continue to investigate the case, conducting multiple searches and executing numerous search warrants to gather more information.
Mamta’s mother expressed her grief, describing her daughter as a hardworking and beautiful person. Currently, Mamta and Naresh’s one-year-old daughter is being cared for by other family members. The case remains ongoing as investigators search for answers regarding Mamta’s fate.
