A waiter has been arrested in Argentina for allegedly selling cocaine to the late singer Liam Payne, who tragically passed away last month. Braian Nahuel Paiz was taken into custody at his home near Buenos Aires on January 3, following charges related to Payne’s death. His lawyer, Fernando Madeo Facente, confirmed the arrest.
Paiz is now facing a potential prison sentence ranging from four to 15 years. He has consistently maintained his innocence, asserting that while he and Payne used drugs together, he never provided them or accepted money from the singer.
Liam Payne, a well-known figure and former member of One Direction, died at the age of 31 after falling from his hotel balcony on October 16. His lawyer, during a recent television appearance, reiterated Paiz’s innocence, mentioning that the two had spoken often and that Paiz had long admired Payne.
In late December, five individuals were charged in connection with Payne’s death, including a hotel manager and receptionist. These charges include manslaughter, with allegations suggesting negligence in their duties toward Payne, who was struggling with addiction.
The prosecutor’s office reported that Paiz is suspected of having sold cocaine to Payne on two occasions just before his death. Authorities stated that at the time of the fall, Payne was not fully conscious and had traces of multiple substances in his system.
Payne’s funeral took place on November 20, attended by family, friends, and former bandmates, highlighting the significant impact he had on those around him.
