A man has been arrested in New York City following a bomb threat aimed at the famous studios of Saturday Night Live. Police reports indicate that the New York Police Department (NYPD) received news of the threat around 7 a.m. on Tuesday. The man, identified as Michael Branham from Glen Head, New York, was taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Branham, 48, faces charges for making threats of mass harm and for falsely reporting an incident. According to court records, he pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his bail has been set at $100,000.
The threat was reportedly communicated to a college in Connecticut, which alerted the authorities. Investigators have determined that the threat was not credible. However, Branham’s name has drawn further attention as it matches that of a person for whom actress Scarlett Johansson previously sought a restraining order, although that request was denied due to a legal technicality.
Branham’s lawyer argued in court that his client has been the victim of scams in the past and suggested that others might be responsible for the threats. The situation remains under investigation, and further updates are expected as authorities delve deeper into the case.
As of now, there has been no official comment from Saturday Night Live regarding the incident.
