Man Arrested for Allegedly Chaining Girlfriend to Bed in Australia
A man from New South Wales, Australia, has been arrested on serious charges, including domestic violence. Zane Woodward, 34, is accused of chaining his girlfriend to their bed to prevent her from leaving and allegedly cheating on him.
Reports indicate that Woodward used a heavy metal chain to secure the woman, allowing her to be released only for bathroom breaks or meals. The accusations reveal a troubling pattern of behavior, with claims that he also took her phone, wallet, and keys, isolating her from family and friends since they began dating in September 2024.
The situation took a turn when the victim managed to escape while they were out together. She hid in a pharmacy and sought help from a customer, eventually reporting the incident to the police. Authorities were alerted to her claims of abuse soon after she arrived at the police station.
When police arrived at Woodward’s home, they found evidence that supported the woman’s statements. Medical examinations revealed multiple injuries, including broken ribs and bruising.
Woodward was arrested and faces numerous serious charges, such as kidnapping and assault, in a case that highlights the dangers of domestic violence. Prosecutors noted that the evidence was consistent with the victim’s allegations. Woodward’s lawyer acknowledged the seriousness of the situation but suggested that his client’s family believed the couple seemed happy together.
He remains in custody, with a court appearance scheduled for October 8, where his bail request was denied. This case serves as a reminder of the urgent issue of domestic violence and the need for immediate support for victims.
