Malik Beasley Faces Federal Investigation Over Gambling Allegations
NBA free agent Malik Beasley is under federal investigation related to gambling issues, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. This inquiry links to the 2023-2024 NBA season when Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks, where he averaged 11.3 points in 79 games.
Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, emphasized that an investigation does not imply guilt or any charges against the player. He stated, "I’ve worked with many clients under federal investigation who were never charged with a crime. Just because there’s an inquiry involving Malik doesn’t mean he’s committed any wrongdoing."
The NBA has acknowledged the investigation and is cooperating with federal prosecutors. Mike Bass, a spokesman for the NBA, reiterated this point, highlighting the league’s commitment to transparency.
Beasley recently signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Detroit Pistons and performed notably well last season, hitting a personal best of 319 three-pointers. Currently, it remains uncertain how this investigation might affect his future with the Pistons or the upcoming season.
While the investigation unfolds, representatives from the Pistons have stated they are aware of the situation but have deferred further comments to the NBA. This is not the first instance of an NBA player facing gambling inquiries; Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier is also currently under investigation for unusual betting patterns.
As the situation develops, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how it impacts both Beasley’s career and the league at large.
