Malcolm-Jamal Warner Tragically Passes Away at 54
The beloved actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, known for his role as Theo Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” has died at the age of 54. The actor reportedly drowned while swimming at Playa Grande de Cocles in Costa Rica on Sunday afternoon.
According to local authorities, Warner was caught in a strong current that pulled him into deeper waters. Although beachgoers attempted to rescue him, first responders were unable to revive him once he was brought to shore.
Emergency services, including the Costa Rican Red Cross, were alerted at approximately 2:10 PM regarding a water-related incident. They confirmed that Warner was one of two men involved in the incident. While one was rushed to a local clinic in critical condition, Warner was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Details from the Costa Rican Judicial Investigation Department noted that Warner’s body was later transported to a morgue for an autopsy. Preliminary reports suggest that the incident occurred between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM.
Warner rose to fame for his role on “The Cosby Show,” which aired from 1984 to 1992. He appeared in all 197 episodes and even received an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy in 1986.
His work extended beyond the sitcom, with significant roles in other television shows like “Reed Between the Lines” and “Malcolm & Eddie.” Additionally, he appeared in films such as “Fool’s Gold” and “Tyson,” and most recently hosted a podcast titled “Not All Hood.”
In a statement, Andrew Wyatt, a spokesperson for Bill Cosby, expressed his sadness over Warner’s passing, recalling a deep friendship between the two. He noted that despite the controversy surrounding “The Cosby Show,” Warner was proud of the show’s legacy and its positive impact on American and Black culture.
