Georgia Congressman Loudermilk to Retire
Washington, D.C. – Representative Barry Loudermilk, a Republican from Georgia, announced Wednesday that he will not run for re-election when his current term ends. Loudermilk has represented Northwest Georgia in Congress for six terms.
In a statement, Loudermilk said it has been an “honor” to serve his constituents. He emphasized his focus on defending the Constitution and representing the interests of his district during his time in office.
“Representing the people in Congress is a service, not a career,” Loudermilk stated, echoing a sentiment shared by many conservatives who believe in term limits and citizen legislators. “I believe it is time to contribute to my community, state, and nation in other ways.”
Loudermilk also noted that he and his wife carefully considered the decision. He emphasized the importance of family and his desire to spend more time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Loudermilk is among a number of Republicans who have recently announced their retirements, signaling a potential shift in the political landscape. While some may see this as a loss of experience, others view it as an opportunity for new leaders to step forward and champion conservative values.
Representative Vern Buchanan, a Republican from Florida, also announced last Tuesday that he would retire.
