Laverne Cox has announced her departure from E!’s red carpet coverage after three successful years. The 52-year-old actress revealed on January 2 that she will be transitioning to a new role in the upcoming comedy series, Clean Slate.
In her heartfelt Instagram post, Cox expressed her gratitude, saying, “With an incredible amount of gratitude, I’ve decided not to return as host of #LiveFromE’s red carpet coverage. I’m so incredibly proud of the work we did over my three-year tenure.” She also extended thanks to NBCU and E! for the support she received during her time there.
Cox reflected on the privilege of interviewing some of the most renowned artists and sharing their stories about success and the pressures that come with it. She conveyed her excitement about continuing to grow as an actress and a host, encouraging her followers to join her on this new journey.
The talented actress will not be covering the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, which will take place on January 6. Instead, Zuri Hall from Access Hollywood and comedian Heather McMahan will take on the hosting duties for the event.
In her farewell montage on Instagram, Cox showcased memorable moments from her time on the red carpet, including highlights from prestigious award shows like the Oscars and Emmys. The video featured touching reunions with past co-stars and a particularly emotional moment with co-star Nava Mau.
Although fans will miss seeing Cox at the awards, they can look forward to her leading role in Clean Slate, which premieres on February 6. The show follows an old-school car wash owner, played by George Wallace, as he reconnects with his child, who returns as a proud trans woman named Desiree, played by Cox.
All eight episodes of Clean Slate will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting February 6.
