A woman from Michigan named Asja Outerbridge found herself removed from a virtual court session after she was seen making a peanut butter sandwich during a hearing. She was attending a session for a misdemeanor charge at the 36th District Court in Detroit when the incident occurred.
During the video call, Judge Sean Perkins noticed Outerbridge, who appeared late, preparing her snack. He directed her to stop what she was doing and put her food down. He also commented that she should be dressed more appropriately for court.
Outerbridge insisted that she was appropriately dressed. The judge responded with a light-hearted question, “Is that a robe?”
She explained that she was simply trying to take care of her sick daughter, who was unable to attend school that day: “I’m just trying to feed her. That is it.” The judge acknowledged her situation but reminded her that they were still in a court setting.
Later, Outerbridge admitted to CBS News that her actions were not ideal. She reflected on the incident, stating, “I could have come dressed better and more prepared.” She emphasized that she didn’t mean to disrespect the court and sincerely apologized to the judge for her behavior.
As a personal stylist, Outerbridge recognized the importance of proper presentation. She mentioned that balancing motherhood and appearances can be challenging, but she aims to share advice on looking appropriate while navigating both personal and professional obligations.
