Kym Whitley recently shared her thoughts on working in the comedy world, particularly while filming the upcoming Happy Gilmore 2. At the 16th Annual African-American Film Critics Awards in Beverly Hills, the actress discussed the excitement and pressure that comes with being surrounded by comedy icons like Adam Sandler.
Whitley expressed that being on set feels familiar, yet there’s a weight of expectation to deliver top-notch performances. "You feel like you’re at home, but you’re surrounded by geniuses. It’s hard not to wonder, can I shine next to them?" she said.
Despite the pressure, she praised Sandler for creating a relaxed atmosphere. "He encourages us to have fun and improvise, making the experience enjoyable. The script is hilarious, and it doesn’t feel like work," Whitley added.
The actress assured fans that Happy Gilmore 2, set to be released in 2025 on Netflix, will not disappoint. "It’s going to be one of the funniest movies of the year. The first Happy Gilmore was a classic, and this sequel raises the bar even higher."
The original film, which was released in 1996, features Sandler as Happy Gilmore, a hockey player who turns to golf to save his grandmother’s home, all while facing off against snooty competitors.
In the sequel, Whitley will join new cast members including Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, and Travis Kelce, alongside returning stars from the original movie. Fans can look forward to an exciting blend of new talent and beloved characters when Happy Gilmore 2 hits Netflix in 2025.
