A 22-year-old man from Kentucky is facing serious charges after a disturbing incident involving his girlfriend’s cat. Zachary L. Rollins has been charged with felony animal torture.
The situation unfolded when officers received a call regarding Rollins, who was reportedly intoxicated. His girlfriend claimed that he had bitten off the cat’s ear during an argument. When police arrived at their home in Russell Springs, they found Rollins hiding under blankets in bed.
According to reports, Rollins did not cooperate with the deputies and had to be handcuffed within the house. His girlfriend provided police with photos of the injured cat and a Facebook message in which Rollins seemed to acknowledge his actions. In that message, he said he bit the cat’s ear off because it had bitten him first.
When questioned, Rollins admitted to sending the message but denied the accusation, claiming he simply “tossed” the cat after it bit him.
Authorities later revealed that Rollins is also being investigated for the deaths of two other cats that occurred in April. He now faces three felony charges and is being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond. A court date has been set for May 21.
