New York Knicks Rally for Game 3 Victory Against Indiana Pacers
INDIANAPOLIS — In a thrilling game that showcased determination and resilience, the New York Knicks managed to claw their way back from a significant deficit to defeat the Indiana Pacers 106-100 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
The Knicks were led by Karl-Anthony Towns, who notably scored 20 out of his total 24 points in the fourth quarter, displaying a relentless drive even with a sore knee. Jalen Brunson, who faced foul trouble for much of the game and spent time on the bench, made crucial contributions late in the match, finishing with 23 points.
“It’s a true test when you’re down 20-plus,” Towns remarked after the game. “You have to have that never-say-die attitude.” This mentality was essential as the Knicks found themselves trailing by as much as 16 points midway through the third quarter and 10 entering the fourth.
The team showed remarkable grit when Towns opened the final quarter with a 3-pointer, followed by two layups, shrinking the Pacers’ lead to just three points. Brunson’s layup with just over seven minutes left put the Knicks ahead 89-88, and they held onto the lead for the remainder of the game.
Towns also contributed significantly on the boards, securing 15 rebounds. “All of us are just trying to do whatever it takes to win and get ourselves back in the game,” he stated.
For the Pacers, Tyrese Haliburton was the standout player with 20 points and six assists, while Myles Turner added 19 points. Unfortunately for Indiana, this loss marks their fourth consecutive defeat when playing on the same day as the Indianapolis 500, a notable local event.
Despite the upbeat atmosphere celebrating the Pacers and the race, team officials handed out festive “Vroom Baby” T-shirts, the Knights took full advantage of the opportunity to turn the game around.
Looking ahead, the Knicks still trail in the series 2-1, with Game 4 coming up in Indianapolis. Coach Rick Carlisle acknowledged the challenges his team faced, including the loss of defender Aaron Nesmith to an ankle injury during the third quarter. “We’ve got to be able to attack better and execute as needed,” he said.
As the series continues, both teams will need to assess their strategies and come prepared for the next matchup. The Knicks will aim to build on this victory, hoping for a more hopeful run in the playoffs.
