Lane Kiffin, the new head coach for Louisiana State University (LSU), recently stirred up conversation online with a social media post. This comes after his move from Ole Miss to LSU, a decision that already had people talking.
The post in question featured LSU-themed hats with the phrase “Make Baton Rouge Great.” This slogan is similar to a well-known phrase used by former President Donald Trump, “Make America Great Again.”
The initial post caused a variety of reactions online. Some people engaged with the post, while others criticized it, this led to Kiffin removing the original post and uploading a new version. The updated post tagged LSU directly, instead of referencing the former president. However, online users were quick to point out the original post, reminding everyone that “the internet remembers.”
Following the reactions to the hat photo, Kiffin made another post in an attempt to unify fans. He noted that the colors red and blue combine to make purple, one of LSU’s colors and encouraged everyone to get along.
Kiffin’s move to LSU came with a significant contract. He signed a seven-year deal worth $91 million, placing him among the highest-paid coaches in college football. As part of the agreement, LSU also covered the bonus payments Kiffin was due from his previous position at Ole Miss. He received a $500,000 bonus after Ole Miss lost in the college football playoff semifinal.
Lane Kiffin has a history of being in the public eye, and this recent social media activity is another example of how his actions can quickly become a topic of discussion among fans and observers alike.
