A young boy, Amari Peterson, only 14 years old, lost his life in a shooting at a birthday party in Stockton, California. The shooting, which happened on Saturday night, also injured 15 other people.
Amari’s family is heartbroken. They have started a fundraising page to help with funeral costs. “No parent should ever have to bury their child,” they wrote. “No family should ever go from planning birthdays to planning funerals.”
The shooting took place at a party for a 2-year-old. Besides Amari, two other children, ages 8 and 9, and a 21-year-old man named Susano Archuleta, also died.
Amari’s family remembers him as a bright and promising young man. They said he loved football and basketball. He was also looking at colleges. “He was simply being a kid at a kids’ party,” his family shared.
Police are still investigating the shooting. They are asking the community to come together and help them find the person or people responsible. The shooting has left the community in shock. Stockton’s Mayor, Christina Fugazi, said she couldn’t sleep after hearing about the tragedy. “The trauma they are living with is unimaginable,” she wrote.
