Kentucky Teacher Charged in Fatal DUI Crash
A Kentucky school teacher, Jamie Caldwell, is facing serious charges after an incident involving a fatal crash while allegedly driving under the influence. The accident occurred on April 16 as Caldwell was on her way to work.
According to the Lexington Police Department, Caldwell is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of the accident. The victim, 32-year-old Joshua Hampton, succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Caldwell, 29, appeared in court on May 1, where she pleaded not guilty to the charges. She was released on bail but has been placed under house arrest while the investigation continues.
Police responded to the hit-and-run scene shortly before 7 a.m., finding Hampton with life-threatening injuries. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office later confirmed that Hampton died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries. Investigators used the department’s real-time intelligence system to locate Caldwell’s vehicle in a parking lot at Glendover Elementary, where she works.
Following her arrest, the Fayette County Public Schools announced that Caldwell has been placed on administrative leave as the situation develops. The case is expected to be presented to a grand jury soon.
