A Kentucky man is facing serious charges after a disturbing incident involving his young son. Austin Brooks, 40, was reportedly intoxicated while driving to buy more beer when a dangerous situation unfolded.
According to his nephew, Brooks had his son and nephew in the back of his pickup truck as they drove through Scott County last week. The nephew described how Brooks was speeding along a wet road, raising alarms among the boys as they approached the Love’s Truck Stop and the overpass for Highway 136.
Growing increasingly fearful that Brooks might drive onto the interstate, the two boys began banging on the truck’s cab to get his attention. In an act of desperation, they jumped out of the truck, fearing for their safety. Unfortunately, Brooks did not stop the vehicle after the boys exited.
The consequences were grave. While his nephew suffered only minor injuries, Brooks’ son is now in a coma at the University of Kentucky Hospital, battling a potential brain injury.
As a result of this reckless behavior, Brooks has been charged with wanton endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor, and leaving the scene of an accident. Such incidents highlight the critical importance of responsible driving, especially when young lives are at stake.
