Ed Kelce Defends Son Travis Amidst NFL Season
Ed Kelce, the father of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has recently spoken out in support of his son’s performance this season. In a social media post, the elder Kelce highlighted Travis’s achievements, particularly his standing among tight ends in the league.
Through Week 10 of the NFL season, Travis Kelce held the top spot for total receiving yards among all tight ends. While he has since moved to second place as of Week 12, his father’s comments underscore the pride and support he has for his son’s accomplishments.
Currently, Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride leads the league in both receptions (80) and receiving yards (797) among tight ends. However, Travis Kelce remains a strong contender, holding the second-highest yardage total for tight ends in the NFL with 674 yards. Following closely behind is Indianapolis Colts rookie Tyler Warren, with 662 receiving yards.
At 36 years old, Kelce has shown resilience and skill throughout the current season. His statistics include 54 receptions and four touchdowns, complementing his impressive yardage total. Despite being in the later stages of his career, the 10-time Pro Bowler has continued to be a valuable asset for the Chiefs, providing quarterback Patrick Mahomes with a reliable target. He’s already surpassed his touchdown total from the previous season.
After the Chiefs’ Super Bowl defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles last season, Travis Kelce quickly dismissed any speculation about retirement, confirming his return to the team. More recently, he stated that he would communicate his intentions for the 2026 season to the Chiefs before the start of NFL free agency in March 2026, allowing the team sufficient time for offseason planning.
In the Chiefs’ recent 23-20 victory over the Colts, Kelce contributed four receptions for 43 yards. This win improved the Chiefs’ record to 6-5, though they remain outside of the playoff positions for the moment.
As the season progresses, the Chiefs are aiming to improve their standing to secure a playoff berth and contend for the division title.
Looking ahead, the Chiefs are scheduled to face the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
