Kansas Mayor Faces Charges of Illegal Voting
Topeka, Kansas – Kansas officials have accused Joe Ceballos, the mayor of Coldwater, a small Kansas town, of illegally voting in multiple elections. Secretary of State Scott Schwab and Attorney General Kris Kobach, both Republicans, announced the charges against Ceballos, who is a legal resident from Mexico but not a U.S. citizen.
The charges allege that Ceballos voted in elections in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Voting is a right and responsibility reserved for U.S. citizens, and these charges highlight the importance of maintaining the integrity of our elections.
Kobach has long been a strong voice for secure elections and sensible immigration policies. He has emphasized that while voter rolls are regularly checked, some instances of non-citizen voting can still occur.
“Noncitizen voting is a real problem… It is something that happens fairly frequently,” Kobach stated, echoing concerns shared by many who believe voter fraud is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.
Ceballos faces penalties of over five years in prison if convicted.
This case brings to light the need for continued vigilance in protecting the ballot box. Ensuring that only citizens participate in elections is vital to upholding the principles of self-government and preserving the value of citizenship.
Officials are now using a federal database to cross-check voter rolls with immigration records, hoping to prevent future violations and safeguard the fairness of elections. Ceballos is scheduled to appear in court on December 3.
