A federal judge has put a stop to President Trump’s efforts to significantly cut the staff at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). In a recent ruling, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson expressed her concerns that the Trump administration was not following her previous order aimed at preserving the bureau while legal proceedings are underway.
During a court hearing, Judge Jackson made it clear that she plans to prevent any large-scale layoffs or restrict access to important systems for the bureau’s employees until further notice. She has scheduled another hearing for April 28, where she intends to listen to testimony from officials involved in the proposed job cuts, which would affect around 1,500 employees, potentially leaving just 200 staff members.
President Trump, representing the Republican perspective, has been vocal about reshaping the federal government, arguing that it is filled with inefficiencies and misconduct. Many conservatives and business leaders have shared concerns about the CFPB’s strict regulations and oversight. Trump’s advisor, Elon Musk, has even targeted the bureau as part of his initiative to improve government efficiency.
