Josh Gad Withdraws from ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Due to COVID-19
Actor Josh Gad has announced that he will not participate in the opening weekend of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl after he tested positive for COVID-19. Originally set to play King Herod alongside Cynthia Erivo and Adam Lambert, Gad expressed his disappointment in a heartfelt statement on social media.
In his message, the 44-year-old actor shared that he is deeply saddened by this turn of events, stating, “It truly breaks my heart.” He emphasized the importance of health and safety, saying he wants to ensure the well-being of his castmates. Gad noted that he would only return to the production if he tests negative within the next 48 hours.
Despite this setback, Gad expressed confidence in the show, hinting that it would be an extraordinary experience for audiences. He conveyed his hope to eventually step into the role of King Herod and show off their hard work.
While Gad’s absence is undoubtedly felt, Cynthia Erivo will still take the stage as Jesus, with Adam Lambert starring as Judas. There has been no announcement yet regarding a replacement for Gad’s role.
