Johnny Depp Reflects on Fatherhood and Family Life in France
In a recent interview, Johnny Depp opened up about his cherished memories of raising his two children, Lily-Rose and Jack, with ex-partner Vanessa Paradis in the picturesque south of France. Depp, who split from Paradis in 2012 after 14 years together, reminisced about the tranquil estate near St. Tropez where they spent their family years.
“I never really felt at home until I lived in France with Vanessa and the kids,” he shared. Depp spoke fondly of that period, noting, “It was the first place that truly felt like home.”
He revealed a personal touch during the interview, mentioning a painting of his daughter, Lily-Rose, that he had never finished. “She was just ten back then and now she’s 25,” he remarked, reflecting on how quickly time flies. Depp expressed a sense of nostalgia, admitting to experiencing "empty-nest syndrome."
When asked what he misses most about those days, he fondly recalled, “Oh man, my kids growing up in the south of France.”
Johnny and Vanessa intentionally chose to raise their children away from the spotlight, opting for a serene lifestyle. He lovingly referred to himself as "Papa" during this time, recalling, “I cannot tell you how much I loved being Papa.” As time passed and his children grew, the endearing name was replaced with "Dad," but Depp still holds onto fond memories of his earlier role.
Despite living in various places now, including the U.K. and the Bahamas, Depp says that his heart remains in France, where he first discovered his sense of belonging.
Paradis, who is also a key figure in the children’s upbringing, had previously shared that she chose France as their family base. She appreciated the privacy it offered, allowing them to maintain a normal life while raising Lily-Rose and Jack.
Through all the changes and challenges of life, Johnny Depp’s reflections remind us of the importance of family and the unforgettable moments that shape our lives.
