John Reid Named Republican Nominee for Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor
RICHMOND, Va. – Conservative radio host John Reid has officially secured the Republican nomination for Virginia’s lieutenant governorship, after running unopposed in the recent primary election held on Tuesday.
Reid emerged as the sole candidate following the withdrawal of Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity, who stepped down due to health concerns. Herrity’s exit left Reid to represent the party in an election where he’s seen as a strong candidate.
With a robust background in Virginia politics, Reid has been a prominent figure in the state’s Republican scene. He has previously served on the Henrico County Republican Committee and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2024, alongside his role as a key aide to former U.S. Senator George Allen.
This fall, Reid will join current Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears on the Republican ticket, with Attorney General Jason Miyares also running for re-election.
Reid’s campaign focuses on uniting the Republican Party in Virginia, a state that often shows a narrow political divide but leans Democratic in statewide elections. His platform emphasizes the importance of education without political bias, advocating for a system that prepares students with knowledge and critical thinking skills rather than promoting radical views.
On immigration, Reid is committed to upholding immigration laws, insisting that localities should not be allowed to ignore them. Additionally, he aims to protect and preserve America’s cultural heritage, opposing the removal of historical landmarks.
Despite facing a brief controversy involving inappropriate images published online, Reid has denied any association with that incident. Nevertheless, it sparked discussions among party members about his candidacy.
In a recent gathering, Reid, Earle-Sears, and other Republican leaders celebrated the success of the party’s primary candidates. As it stands, Democrats hold a slim two-seat majority in the Virginia House of Delegates, and Republicans are geared up to make gains in the upcoming elections.
The road ahead for Republicans will be challenging, especially in districts that have previously favored Democratic candidates. With high hopes for the November elections, the party is preparing to defend several crucial seats throughout the state.
As the campaign progresses, the Republican Party remains focused on strategies to strengthen its presence in Virginia, aiming for a successful outcome in what promises to be a competitive election season.
