New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot early Sunday morning during a confrontation outside a restaurant in Manhattan. Reports indicate that Boyd was shot in the abdomen after an argument at the Sei Less restaurant on West 38th Street.
Boyd has been transferred to Bellevue Hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition, according to the New York Police Department.
The incident took place around 2 a.m., when the verbal altercation escalated and led to gunfire, striking Boyd before the assailant fled in a BMW X6 SUV. Another vehicle involved, a silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach, also sped away from the scene.
As investigations continue, police have yet to apprehend the shooter. A spokesperson for the Jets acknowledged the situation but declined to provide further details.
In a show of support, Boyd’s teammate Jermaine Johnson took to social media, urging fans to pray for Boyd’s recovery and for guidance as he navigates this challenging time.
Former NFL player Jack Brewer also commented, expressing concern over the safety in New York City. He described the city as increasingly “lawless,” pointing to recent leadership trends that he believes undermine law enforcement. Brewer suggested stricter measures for professional athletes regarding their safety, emphasizing the potential dangers of being out late in the city’s nightlife.
Kris Boyd is in his first season with the Jets after signing a one-year contract worth $1.6 million. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, and has also played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.
As the situation develops, many in the sports community are rallying for Boyd’s health and safety, hoping for a quick recovery.
