The New York Jets’ 2024 season has turned out to be quite forgettable, and it seems things may get even worse. With a disappointing record of 3-9, the team now faces the possibility of being without two of its promising young players for their upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins. Running back Breece Hall and cornerback Sauce Gardner have been marked as doubtful for Sunday’s match, suggesting the Jets will struggle without key contributions from both sides of the ball.
Injuries have plagued the Jets throughout the season, and now linebacker C.J. Mosley has been placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for the rest of the season after only four appearances. His absence is a significant blow to a defense that has already been underperforming.
This year has not gone as planned for Hall, who has had issues with ball security, fumbling twice in the last game, including one that he lost. Despite rushing for 692 yards so far, Hall’s performance has been lackluster, with just one game exceeding 100 rushing yards. Given the team’s struggle and absence from playoff contention, it may be wise for the Jets to minimize his exposure to injuries.
If Hall cannot play, rookie Braelon Allen will step up as the main running back. Allen has shown potential with 240 yards on 67 carries this season, but he will face a tough challenge ahead.
Gardner, the notable 2022 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, has also not lived up to expectations this season. He is likely to miss Sunday’s game due to a hamstring injury and, surprisingly, has yet to record an interception this year.
The Jets have faced a long drought without a playoff appearance, extending now to 14 seasons, the longest in the NFL. With three of their key players likely absent for this weekend’s matchup, it will be a daunting task for the team to turn their fortunes around and make a comeback in what has been a dismal season.
