Artists Cancel Shows at Kennedy Center After Trump’s Name Added
Several artists have canceled their upcoming performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., after former President Donald Trump’s name was added to the building. The jazz group, The Cookers, recently pulled out of their New Year’s Eve concert.
Richard Grenell, a Trump supporter who was appointed to lead the Kennedy Center, said that these cancellations show that some artists are unwilling to perform for everyone, even those with different political views. He believes the previous leadership booked these artists.
Some see this as a sign of division, while others argue that art should bring people together, regardless of their political beliefs. Bluegrass musician Randy Barrett, who is still scheduled to perform at the Kennedy Center, expressed concern about the venue becoming too political. However, he believes that music and art can help unite people in a divided country.
The Kennedy Center was created to honor President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963. Some legal experts say that changing the building’s name would need approval from Congress.
